shiply ?? maybe not so!

this is the story of a courier company that puts you together with couriers on their books and they bid against each other for your business. then you pay them a finders fee for using their service and site.
so sounds good? so i used shiply and one of their couriers took my money for four furniture collections, shiply took the money for the four collections. the courier collected two, then says he has broken down (a week has passed) shiply have been contacted several times and to date have been absolutely useless! this is their reply, which basically states that its tough luck and there is nothing they can do (more like want to do). who vets these so called couriers? then lets them take our money and then we dont have anything we can do. here is their reply, its long but worth a read. i dont have any address etc apart from what i can get off the site, shiply wont give you anything else.

wow busy day !!!

S1 builders of Norfolk looked at a total refit in Peterborough today and its a big job! Lots to finish off so it can be rented out. Great location with a 1 minute walk from the city centre.
Then it was shuffling paperwork over dinner for S1 builders so Nigel and i could work out a plan of action for the next few weeks. Well the paper is still in a muddle but makes sense, somehow. Best prices for timber and panels to date we have found to date is "Timber services" of Kings Lynn.
Its been really busy on the website and the telephone lately with the following to price up and send out this week. One refit, 1 top to bottom decorating/laminate floors/upstairs bathroom/downstairs loo, one fence, one concrete pad, major works to a cloakroom, fencing/bathroom/garden, large concrete pad, very large brick wall/massive car park to tarmac phew,
So must  get on

What a year so far! still half glass full and it seems to be getter fuller.

Working along side "the Perfect fit" seems to be going from strength to strength with every client so far more than happy with everything undertaken. 

To date we have made custom fit wardrobes, painted a bedroom, made a bespoke tele unit, fitted a new garage door and electric opener, fitted out a utility room, finished off draft proofing to doors, rebuilt bay window sills, fixed the leaking roofs, fitted two lots of fencing, few days of handy man activity, wallpapering, priced up loads of work and welded up the trusty truck.
thats jan out of the way with feb booked up with re pointing an end gable of a big house in lime, re roofing, fitting a velux window, mending sash windows and insulating the roof of a studio, complete new bathroom re fit, rendering to an internal wall thats damp, rendering a wall next to road to stop the water entering the house and if there is time making a beach hut!


the update on the mk1 golf roof can be read at  mk1 golf roof ,auto glym have basically failed to supply details of the ingredients and said take us to court if you dare. So be warned !

just to make all of you aware if you have a classic car or a new car the potential problem that can occur from using "Auto Glym" vinyl and rubber care . i used it on a mk1 golf cabriolet and it turned the white roof pink!! sent emails to the company and basically got told the car is too old and i should not of used it, no mention on the bottle of "Do not use on old cars".

Congratulations to all of you that reached 2012 through the last year of hardship, unfortunately its not all over yet and tougher times are said to come yet.Woe and yet more woe? Lets all half fill our glasses and raise them at the coming year with a smile together as united we can all pull through this difficult time. How and why? Well we all need a hand to hold every now and then and if you dont have a hand to squeeze when it feels like all is lost then come and read the dribble thats mostly written on here. Positive thought evokes positive attitudes which in turn create positive happenings! Its true! when its good its good and when its bad its bad! why? because everyone loves to be happy (apart from the odd miserable git, who we are not interested in , well unless its the partner then its time for you to get a new one) so focus on the good things in life and there are plenty. Yes its tough with prices as they are but as a country we have pulled through wars and landed out the other side OK. So cut your cloth to the size that fits your table and keep to it. Smile more! laugh lots! love more (thats not an excuse to go out and sleep about) and if you cannot say anything nice then keep quiet.
We all have our problems some worse than others but we truly wish you all the best for the coming months.

At no time was i made to do this, i asked to wear the tinsel nd enjoyed the bone for doing so. Allergic to turkey bones so beef ones are fine.

 Here we have an extension which s1 builders Norfolk were called out to rectify the subsidence problem. So we cut all the brickwork joints out with a special cutter deisigned to just take the vertical and horizontal joints out without damaging the brickwork. Then the joints are blown and swept out ready for the epoxy resin to have a bead put in, then the heli bars and finally the joints filled within 10 mm of the front edge. Left to set then a sand/cement mix to match the existing (which incidentally the owners are over the moon with the colour match) mortar and hey presto OVER PINNING completed by s1 builders Norfolk. chimney and rendered gable

well heres the scaffolding, the chimney and the rendering.

We started taking the render off as it was letting water in when we discovered that the brickwork was a little wobbly to say the least. the gable is far from straight, no lead work (sticky back plasters used) and the tiles stopped 50mm short of the edge of the gable.
Great not just one issue but a handful to contend with.
so on agreement with the owner we hired Rammys scaffolding and took the chimney down and away. Then the new one went up lead work on and the scratch coat applied today.

Scaffolders are like all tradesman, its hard to find a good one that does what they say on the phone, but at long last after the last one we used not tightening the winch up at three floors so when the labourer pulled on the rope it fell off and could of easily killed him. then the company apologised and set us up with a supposedly great deal but forgot to inform us about the vat until the invoice and put so many joins in one corner it looked like a mechano set. So moving on we stumbled on rammys scaffolding , a great turn up for the books. after being there on time - well here is the reference i left for him to post on his site.

I am the site supervisor for “S1 Buildersltd” and having just been let down by a  scaffolder  prior to using  “Rammys” I was more than surprised to see what substandard scaffolding I had been using prior. Just the appearance of the scaffold stands out from the majority and combined with the excellent punctuality of the company I cannot fault them. The structure itself was solid, as I had requested and we all felt safe whilst rebuilding a chimney and doing the lead work.

All in all this company is a breath of fresh air and I will definitely use “Rammys” again in the future. I have no problems with recommending this company or talking to anyone over the telephone.

today ! and rememberance day!

Updates from the last few weeks! been all over the pace with works from re pointing/over pinning to rendering end gables. Looking at flint walls which we got asked to build leaning over then straighten up as we got level with the ground. build a wall on the slant then straighten it? I don't think so! Looking at work for next july/august which is a bit of a distance but that's what we are doing. Let down by scaffolders and then one that sticks to his word! Great tidy up of tools and actually got to clean the van! its white again. Priced for so much work that's its great, 2126 tonight and just finished doing an estimate but the apple vodka is screaming in the fridge to be drunk and as its a day off looking at more work tomorrow i fear i may succumb to its calls. Coming up we have some garden tips with an unwelcome guest and pictures of the works finished and working on.
One of the sunniest Sundays in November and people all over the country donned a red poppy and stood and clapped our troops at remembrance processions. Despite all the politics that surround our troops etc no one can take away the fact that how brave past and present troops are/have been. Anyway it was great to stand there with my children and live a moment with total strangers that i will cherish for ever.
