End of the week and the wall has a major dent in it!

This wall is not getting blown over or is it a flimsy 100mm thick, more like 400mm and pillars that could hold a house up. Maybe its looked upon as over the top? but its a great looking piece with neighbours and client impressed.

Walking past a shop today when the wee chocolate biscuit making mice entered my head as i saw a cuddly bagpuss. Not into furry things the children were shocked when dad shelled out for a bit of nostalgia! It actually talks too............

its the weekend!

well at last the weekend is here with the weather up and down like a yo yo wet-hot sunny-cold the wall went up regardless and all of a sudden has started to look like a wall not a pile of building materials.

Its been a busy week so far with the weather, getting used to being back after the biggest bug jam ever! The event was so cool and I realised why i love air-cooled VW's so much. Seeing beetles go down the strip and beating production cars is such a grin factor.
Well we have several new pages going up this week, with exciting artists and news on their work.
We picked up some more work today working for a disabled lady (ramps, walling etc), have a multitude of work to price and go and look at.
The new site is in its final stages which is exciting and is looking to launch this week.
VW vwwhitenoise is coming up and is worth a look, not sure how I feel about dogs being allowed at the event though with it being such a family event.
There is an advertising campaign starting in "Homebase" soon which we are part of.
Looking at selling the 21 window samba at the end of the month and replacing the old ldv truck this year. Shame as its been such a great work horse and has paid for itself so many times.
Found out that the greenhouse we put together was panels for cold frames not an old greenhouse as the client had told us, naughty client!
The garden clearance payment came through with thanks.

The flint for the great wall of syderstone

 Its been a rubbish week so far with the weather and moral was at a low today as the drizzle soaked us and the mortar. Wet and dejected I gave up with only an hour to go leaving the others to finish the last bit of mortar left. The flint is taking its time to lay as usual as the design is "garden wall" and the flint incorporated in to the design is so irregular its difficult to seat it onto each other piece. We did have a few problems getting the flint so it matched the surrounding walls and houses due to one pit not having any and another we use struggling to keep up with demands. So with two loads delivered to site we set about the task of moving it ready to lay. The piers will be completed tomorrow and the block work will then follow ready for a helping hand laying the flint. We are looking at putting tiles onto the pillars and top of the wall as with the post office wall we did. No wonder the cavemen used the flint for tools as its razor sharp and luckily only our gloves have been sliced open to date (lets keep it that way). The left over shards of flint are totally useless as being so sharp they cannot be mixed for concrete as when the top surface wears the flint then shreds your tyres. The site will look like a caveman's tool making shop in years to come when an owner digs the garden. Check out the lines on the wall as there are three of them to keep the wall straight and on the piers the level work is horrendous, this wall is substantial to say the least and maybe wont be seen from space but is going to look great when finsihed.

 Here we have the start of the footings for the double sided flint wall, all 15metres of it.

 This may look like any old wall loaded out but the lorry dropped the bricks, blocks and a tonne of cement off on the road a mere 50 metres away. So everything was wheeled in a barrow along a shingle pathway. Not the easiest of jobs by any means!

The pillar butts up against the conservatory (we never built this!) so we put a piece of DPM against the wall to stop any damp ingress. Similar construction to the Post office wall apart from being double sided flint.
We have the wall, a shed base and fencing to do here.The opportunity to do a patio if the price is right! It will be!!!

bannister rail

here is a bannister rail that was fitted to split up two levels in a conservatory. the spindles used were barley twist so its got the added swarve look!
